Neo Z83-4 Max | Windows preinstalled, can't install Ubuntu (nor Debian)

Hi everybody,

I've checked the forum to find a solution to my problem, no success. So here is my question :

I bought today a "Neo Z83-4 Max" (no "Pro", no "Plus" no 'U', it's labeled "Max") which came with Windows 10 preinstalled. I don't want Windows on it, I want to install Linux.

So I flashed an USB drive with the image provided on the forum and I can boot on it and it goes to GRUB. Then, when I choose to launch Ubuntu, I got a blank screen (no more HDMI signal arrives to my screen). The USB HD light blinks, but nothing happens.

I tried via a USB 3.0 port and a USB 2.0 port, same result. I tried with two different USB drives, same result. I tried with Ubuntu (both, the 20 LTS provided on the forum and 20 LTS provided by Ubuntu's website) and Debian (provided by Debian's website), same result.

Is there a setting in the BIOS that I'm missing ? Is there a setting such as "Secure boot" in Windows that I'm missing ?

As I don't see the model "Neo Z83-4 Max" in the different threads, I'm wondering if it works differently than the other models.

Any help would be appreciated,

Fred.

Thanks, I've learned something.

Unfortunately not, the only model the shop I went to had, was this model. So I thought I could buy it and install a Linux distro on it afterwards.
You should be able to install Linux.
Sadly, I don't have any experience in Linux installs! ?

Hi.
I don't have any minix Z83-4 model to test but you should be able to do :
-install only linux or dual boot (Windows and another Linux distro)

You can try download from ubuntu website the ISO and install (via https://www.balena.io/etcher/ for example ).

Another tests you can do are:
-another monitor/tv
-use minix official cable

Note:
-I tested a time ago J50C-4 plus with my Samsung 43RU7105 (Distro ubuntu 20.04 LTS 64 BITS) and i had issues (display issues... ).
-what i recommend, do the installation using 1080p (max) monitor, then if you really need you can test with a 4K TV/monitor.

Check this for dual boot: (Language - Portuguese, brasil).

Youtuber with a lot of knowledge and that i really appreciate (how to install Ubuntu).

From that links above you can search (english versions)
-how to install ubuntu or dual boot Windows and Ubuntu
