CoreELEC - MINIX U9-H

Hello multimedia enthusiasts,

After using CoreELECT for a week, I just can say that...... is GREAT.

Some feedback of my experience:
- on my minix with CoreELECT on Micro SD, I Just power it from IR and it jumps to CoreELECT, no tricky thing on power button+power conector is needed;
- minix takes 2 a 3 minutes to boot up;
- AEON MQ8 skin is toooooo slooooow;
- on default skin, it works great, but with a slight delay;
- it perform acceptable on films 4K with atmos (50GB);
- on Yatse, some times fail the connection and I've to reboot using remote control;
- on Yatse, and the images loading are slow;
- all services works, as expected.

Sooo, being said... it seems that I will jumpt to the next step, CoreELECT installed on eMMC!!!!

Can someone feedback if the performance will increase, like no freeze or slow performace with 50GB films or using Yatse?

Can someone, who has the CoreELECT installed on eMMC, feedback about performane, and if possible intall the skin AEON MQ, and feedback?

thanks in advance

Hi. I am new to coreelec on the U9-H. I am also trying to make latest coreelec (legacy 9.2.8) to boot from emmc. But on legacy builds the ceemmc script doesn't exist (only on NG-builds with new kernel). Did you somehow arrive to install actual coreelec build on emmc/nand? Did question this also on another thread. Don't burn me for double post.... :).

Recently my minix U9-H using coreElec is having some issues that were not there before.
My minix is connected to an AV receiver.
When I am in the middle of playing videos, out of complete randomness, suddenly my tv screen goes to black and no sound at all. Video status is showing as "play". I then realized that this was because my AV receiver had an input change. I changed the input at my AV receiver to INPUT1 (minix), and the video suddenly resume playback as normal again. After a while, this would happen again out of complete randomness. Sometime I had this issue like every 1 or 5 minutes. Which is very annoying.
Does anyone knows what could be the problem? Is it the coreelec, is it the minix, is it the cable, is it the av receiver...??

I'd try changing the HDMI cable first as it's not uncommon for a proven cable to experience issues or simply fail out of the blue. (Try changing both unless other devices connected to the receiver itself are otherwise OK.)

Are you running CE from the eMMC or an SD? ( If the latter, try a different SD.)

Is the media you're experiencing issues with all from the same source or online only? (Try another proven source such as a trusted USB drive, NAS etc.)

Failing that, try a fresh install of CoreElec too or if you're using builds, known unsupported addons, or sometimes even supported add-ons, try removing them all first & see how CE then behaves with a clean install.

I got suspicious, because the weird issue did not happen at all when I am only at the library or at the menu of CoreElec. It only happened when playing videos.

So I tried to fiddle with some settings, disabled audio passthrough, and the issue stopped happening.
I think the AV receiver had some issue relating to the settings of audio passthrough, such as DTS capable receiver (where it thinks my AV receiver is not DTS capable). But actually my AV receiver is DTS capable. So this thing is weird.

OK, Id double check your audio, passthrough & HDMI CEC config as it's obviously not an issue you should ordinarily expect, especially if you have a relatively recent Sony HDMI capable AVR.

Which version of CoreELEC are you running on the U9-H? I also have a Sony DN1080 receiver (although, the known issues affected multiple brands), but one of the CoreELEC Matrix RC's recently caused some serious headaches for some AVR owners, for example. Try a different available version or if the problem wasn't there before & then just started happening, again I'd definitely do a fresh install of CoreElec as it may be an instant fix, it's not like that takes too long.

Failing that, again, check your sources and/or the source files themselves.

Hi folks,
I use my U9-H (android 7.1.2) only to play videos (HDD connected to the box via USB 2.0) on KODI. The system works well but is a little slow, especially when loading 4k HEVC movies with a high bitrate.

What added value can I obtain with the latest version of CoreELEC (on SD card)? Or should I just change my HDD to an external SSD?

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Vincent

Hopefully someone more savvy here will give you a more expert reply. By 'loading' i assume you mean 'playing'? I could never get videos to play satisfactorily on any media box under Android. Using Kodi with CoreELEC was a complete game-changer and has been pretty much problem free. FWIW, I don't believe that changing your storage to SSD would make any difference.

Thx for reply!
I was meaning "loading and playing" ;o)
So "old CoreELEC" better than a "fresh KODI 22" under Android?

It's a long time since i ran any kodi under android, but unless things have changed over the years, the answer would definitely be yes.

I dont think you will see much difference by going to Coreelec but you have nothing to lose by trying.

I dont recall ever having issues with my U9h playing 4K HEVC high bitrate using Kodi. I would either do this from a NAS or directly from an addon.

Thanks again for the answers! can the quality of the microSD card impact/improve the speed of CoreELEC?

Yes

Oui
THANKS! I ordered a Samsung evo plus card, I'll test it as soon as it arrives.
Have a nice week end

Good morning,
I am visibly less capable than I thought... I have :
1) purchased a Samsung evo+ card
2) downloaded the file CoreELEC-Amlogic.arm-9.2.8-Generic.img.gz
3) mount the file with rufus on the card
4) picked up the dtb file in the image and copied to the root of the sd card
5) launched minix by pressing the power button for a few seconds...

but I'm stuck on a screen with the minix logo without the little Android guy!

an idea?

sorry for my english

I understood my mistake! I renamed the dtb file incorrectly...
it's: "dtb.img"
not "gxm_q200_2g_minix_neo_u9.dtb.img"

Next stupid question :)
How can I use the minix remote?
Thanks in avance!!!
from memory you need to install a remote.conf file

To use an amremote configuration simply copy your remote.conf file to either the root folder of your SD card / USB flash drive or to /storage/.config/remote.conf.

rename the attached file to remote.conf
